A Powerful Dose of Energy and Light!
2025 Sustainability Gathering participants in Ulew Fuego
The November sun was intense, and the fire volcano—active as always—welcomed them amid laughter and curiosity. Dozens of young people from the 2025 Sustainability Gathering: “A Sustainable Future Led by Youth” arrived that day. Once again, Ulew Fuego became an open classroom: nine stations to walk, think, and propose. Between the murmur of the forest, the view of the volcano, and the scent of damp earth, we learned—once more—that transformation begins with a well-asked question.
As many already know, Ulew Fuego was born by and for youth. It is an initiative that promotes the responsible use and management of livelihoods, envisioned as a living space for hands-on learning that can then be replicated in other territories and communities. During this visit, we launched a purpose-driven journey—a trail designed to learn, reflect, and connect. Across nine stations—Ulew Fuego’s history, cacao cultivation, agroforestry systems, forest dynamics, territory and landscape, water and soils, everyday biodiversity, local economy, and proposals for action—participants explored technical knowledge and, most importantly, translated those lessons into concrete commitments.
“It’s rewarding to hear from people who care for Mother Nature. Every action, even when done voluntarily, can become a small contribution toward producing food and generating well-being for everyone.”

Diego, one of our fellows from the Community Fellowship Program, sharing about Ulew Fuego’s initiatives.
The day was filled with laughter, anecdotes, questions, and photos. It was a lively, sunny—and yes, tiring—journey, but not too tiring to miss the most important moment: exchanging ideas, projects, and dreams about the future these young people are determined to build. Some walked with their hearts alight, representing their communities; others supported the experience as volunteers, ensuring everything ran smoothly. Thanks to this collective effort, a network of human connections was woven—one that transcends borders and cultures.
Many had heard of Ulew Fuego before, but had never experienced it up close. This time, the energy flowed both ways: the farm lit up with their presence, and they carried home an immersive experience to multiply in their own territories. Young people, this is your home. We will continue working and learning together to strengthen knowledge, principles, values, and skills—and, from youth leadership, become the true drivers of change.
